Give A Little Bit
As Heather notes today, the time is fast approaching for the Little Hearts Pub Crawl, an annual effort to raise money for children with congenital heart defects. Take note party animals, this is probably the longest pub crawl in New England, featuring a ten hour twenty bar crawl down Hancock Street in Quincy. This event is organized locally and proceeds go to the Little Hearts Organization. Last year was a blast; we had a great time and raised money for a great cause. Both Heather and I will be posting the details for this year's crawl - feel free to drop a line of you're interested in being a sponsor or coming along yourself. Last year Geoffrey from Dog Snot Diaries joined us; I daresay he had a good time and hopefully will be back this year.
If you're like me, you probably have stacks of books, already read, gathering dust and taking up space around the house. Sure you can always trade them in at a second-hand store, or throw them out, but why not give them away to some one who might really appreciate some fresh reading material? Through Books For Soldiers you can send your used to books to servicemen and women overseas and in VA hospitals. To get started, all you have to do is go the their online bulletin board, find a soldier whose request has not been filled, and follow the mailing guidelines to send off your package. I should add here that you're not limited to sending books; a quick scan of the board shows that troops are asking for any number of things, from DVDs and videogames, to CDs, to socks and freeze pops, to requests for simply letters and postcards. Go on, make a difference.
