From Sheila, who asks If you had a time machine - and could visit 5 separate times/places - what would they be?
In no particular order, here are my answers...
1. New York of the 1950's - I've wanted to see this since Hamill's nostalgic evocation of the city in this era in A Drinking Life.
2. London c. 1913. - to experience what was then the greatest city in the world, at the center of the greatest power in the world, at what was arguably the zenith of western civilization, before the 'lamps went out' across Europe.
3. Dallas 1963 - on the Grassy Knoll, to solve this mystery once and for all.
4. Summer, 1941. The United States. Baseball. Joe. D's hitting streak. Teddy Ballgame's quest for .400. Dodgers. Cardinals. The best baseball season ever?
5. Montana 1876. The Little Bighorn, as Custer and his men splash across the river and begin their doomed attack. Because I'd like to know how it really went down.
Of course, I could create an entirely different five tomorrow.
